Today
was the first day of a very beautiful thing – recording! Yes,
it’s true. Joe and I started recording Lolita’s Way’s first CD of
our original songs. Robert Henry of Oracle Sound is our recording
engineer. We met at his place Tuesday evening to set up our
instruments and begin our journey. Robert’s mastermind had us
sounding great in no time. He has a lot of very helpful suggestions
and is very efficient. Above all, the man is patient. Very
patient. We recorded three songs today, and after five hours and a
lot of sugar, ended up with some pretty good “rough drafts.” All
three of us are pretty excited to record the rest of our songs.

It’s the second day of recording, and although we’re already tired,
we’re ready to keep rolling. I added the vocals to the songs
we recorded yesterday, and Joe added his wicked
guitar to a couple of the songs. We also recorded one more
song before we wrapped it up for the day. So far, this has
been a great learning experience. I’ve learned that precision
is key, and that I have none. It’s fun nonetheless, and
exciting to get our songs on some sort of recorded media.
During our live performances, it’s difficult for me to really hear
what Joe is playing (because I have to concentrate so hard on what
I’m doing or I’ll screw up), so it’s nice to actually be able to
hear what the heck my partner is doing over there. I’m
impressed so far.
Joe
and I will both be out of town for a couple of weeks, and will
resume our recording sessions at the end of July. We hope to have a
complete CD within the next few months. Please keep checking back
here for the progress. Once the CD is done and many golden copies
are made, they will be available for anyone to purchase at our
shows, and through an online distributor. Have a great 4th
of July!
July 23, 2008
After being out of town for two weeks, Joe and I were both ready to
get back to playing and recording. We had high hopes of being
especially efficient today and getting at least three entire songs
recorded, but we had some technical difficulties and didn’t end up
getting as much done as we would’ve liked. We did, however, still
record the instrumentation for two and a half songs (The Glow, Let
it Go, and part of Today). Look for them soon on our Myspace page.
We also managed to eat a lot of candy – again. We’ll have one more
recording session before the month of July is over, and then we’ll
be getting ready for our August 9th show at The Wellington pub in
Troy, MI. Hope you can make it!

August 13, 2008
First of all, a BIG thank you to all those that made it out to The
Wellington Pub on Saturday, August 9th. Because of you, we’ve been
asked to play there again pretty much as often as we’d like. Thank
you for your constant support!
Mr. Pytel, Jr. and I
recorded on July 30th, but there wasn’t much to report, which is why
you haven’t heard about it. Today, we were back at it again, mostly
cleaning up the songs that we already recorded. We were very
efficient this time around and happy with the outcome. I also gave
Joe and Robert, our recording engineer, a lesson in diction. (no
comments, Damian, Brad, or the entire Pytel/Benvenuti clan, for that
matter!) “Diction,” just so there’s no confusion here, is defined
as:
|
enunciation: the articulation of speech regarded from the point
of view of its intelligibility to the audience
wording: the manner
in which something is expressed in words; "use concise military
verbiage" -G.S. Patton |
If anyone finds that they
can’t understand what I’m singing in our songs (other than because
of its fast tempo; i.e., Cell Phone), please let me know so that I
can improve my diction.
Some of the songs
currently on our Myspace page will be updated, and you should also
be seeing The Glow added to the list of songs soon for your
listening pleasure. After that, you’ll have to buy the CD in order
to hear the rest of the LW tunes. Actually, not all of our originals
are going to be on this first CD because there’s just too many.
Luckily, you can hear all of our originals live this Friday,
August 15th at the Wellington Pub in Troy.
For the next couple of
weeks, instead of recording, Joe and I will be writing new originals
and working on adding new songs to our rep. Next time you see us
live, we should have a few more new songs for you. In the meantime,
we’ll keep you updated of our upcoming shows.
